The Monsoon Safety Guide: What You Need to Know - Yamaha Motor Pakistan

We know you love your bike as much as that special someone, hence we got just the right tips to save you from trouble! Everyone has their rainy days so if your bike has them too, it’s absolutely fine! Just know that you have to care for it in all the ways we suggest.
Take care of the most important thing: YOU!
First of all the tips and the ways to protect the bike is to take care of your own self first. If the rider is not healthy and flu-free, riding is out of the question! So take your medicine like painkillers and have a fulfilling sleep of about 6 hours minimum for a bright day ahead.
Brake check
Since the roads are wet with rain, it is highly recommended you ride slowly. You don’t want to end up in a situation where you have to break your speed suddenly and the bike doesn’t cooperate with you and ends up skidding over. So have your liners, discs and the insides of your drum brakes checked.
Also, when you need to brake, apply more rear brake than normal. You can easily correct your rear wheel if it starts sliding while it is harder to correct the front wheel if it starts sliding.
Parking savvy
As long as you park under a shed which is not a tree, you’re safe. In heavy rainfalls, you can never be sure when the branch might fall. Hence try and park under a safe space, which doesn’t get your bike too wet to be ridden. Also, wipe the muck off the engine once you’re off the bike, after a long ride. It might cause rusting, if the engine is not oiled properly.
Mechanic meet
Scheduled servicing is necessary for all bikes, whether it’s monsoon, summer or winter. During and before the raining starts, your bike needs a little extra care. You don’t want your bike to stop running in the middle of a slippery watery road.
Wheels
Rubber wheels have a certain age till when they run smoothly. If the treads on your wheels have worn out, you need to get them exchanged with new wheels. We underestimate the importance of treads, they help disperse the water that collects on the wheel and in the process provide grip. To test the depth of the grooves, you can insert a one-rupee coin into the grooves. A minimum of 2-3mm of tread depth is necessary for the wheels to provide a fair amount of grip on wet roads. Also, don’t forget to check the pressure of your wheels to ensure it is on optimal levels and when the lightning starts, stop riding. Head for cover.
Proper Gear
Wear proper rain gear. It needs to be able to breath but still not allow water to creep in. Make sure your helmet covers your face, since rain above 30 mph is going to hurt you. And since we don’t have wipers on our helmets (well, maybe some do) you can easily spray something like Rain-X on the visor to help you with your visibility. This rain repellant will help with your visibility easily.
