SIX TIPS FOR RIDING A MOTORCYCLE DURING MONSOON SEASON - Yamaha Motor Pakistan

Riding a motorcycle in the rain can be an interesting challenge or a terrifying trip down the slippery lane. With the start of monsoon season, we mustered up six tips to keep you riding safe under heavy rain.

The Right Gear:

Riders are more vulnerable to accidents and that’s why it is very important to wear the right gear while riding. Invest in good quality water-proof jacket, trousers, gloves, helmet, knee and elbow pads, and boots. It will help keep yourself dry and comfortable enough for you to focus on the road.

Tire Maintenance:

Tires are one of the most important parts of the motorcycle that needs proper maintenance during monsoon season. Make sure the treads should have at least half of its shelf life to provide adequate traction. Tire treads is designed to disperse water and with that, having a good tread depth is critical for riding under the rain.

Maintain Distance:

Maintaining a distance allows you to react calmly in case of a mishap on the road. Due to loss of traction, stopping the bike takes longer on wet roads than dry roads. Moreover, heavy rain obstruct your vision and braking power, and that’s why you need to increase the gap between other vehicles.

 Keep Your Headlights On:

The issue of visibility is not only for drivers but for motorists too. Switch on the headlights during day and night so that the oncoming traffic knows your presence. Make it a habit to clean the headlamps and tail lamps which could be covered with mud in the rain. During your journey, make sure your headlights are on low beam as to not hamper the vision of the oncoming vehicles. You can use high beams when necessary however it’s recommended to stick to low beams as much as possible.

 Avoid Potholes and Puddles:

During monsoon season, it is all about focusing on the road then on the speed. Uneven patches, muddy roads, potholes, puddles, pedestrians, foggy weathers, other vehicles are all hurdles that the average rider needs to face on every ride. Always keep check for signs, especially in low visibility and brake accordingly. Also, try to avoid stopping or parking near trees as they are more likely to be struck by lightning or a broken branch that can fall directly on your motorcycle.

 No Speeding:

When riding under heavy rain, you lose traction on the road leading to less control of your motorcycle. This enable to ride comfortably while avoiding hard braking. It is best to ride at 20 – 40km/hr, where you are in control of the motorcycle. If the visibility goes lower due to foggy weather, it’s better to further lower the speed until you feel confident and safe to continue your journey.

As you practice these riding tips overtime, you will find riding during monsoon season can be satisfying and not to mention, it will make you a better and more confident rider.

I am pioneer owner of YAMAHA YB Z Bike. I am really disappointed with the service providers. Till one Year back they used to provide quality service but now due to increase in the no of bike Quality centers in Rawalpindi and Islamabad are just making money charging tuning high rate and high part rates in name of genuine.

Why they r keeping different quality products secondly all parts should be tagged with price on the Top from Factory only.

EMAD AUTOS and IQRA AUTOS r 2 QS shops they are not working up to the mark as before .

Please increase the number of Yamaha quality service providers and fix the spare sparts prices so they cannot charge it for more money.

Advise your centers to check bike thoroughly listen to customer properly.
